The Arcade Restaurant is a Memphis institution, famed for being Elvis’s favorite diner and home to “Elvis’s booth.” As Memphis’s oldest diner, it has been a cornerstone of the city’s cultural and culinary history for nearly a century. When The Arcade approached me ahead of their 100th anniversary, they wanted to honor their storied past while creating a fresh, cohesive brand for the future.
The challenge was striking a balance: how do you preserve the nostalgia of a fourth-generation family-owned establishment while giving it a modern edge? I started by creating a clean vectorized version of their iconic neon-type logo. Before this, it was only a painted logo and letters in neon, but not a file they could use. With the iconic logo in digital form—we carried through to new menus, signage, and even a custom Snapchat filter for their centennial celebration.
For the website, I wove elements of the diner’s retro charm—like the boomerang patterns from their classic table décor—into a streamlined design that feels fresh yet familiar. The site includes a tailored menu navigation system with filters, an engaging history page, and custom features to meet customer needs. Visitors can easily view the menu, make reservations, order online, book events, or shop Arcade merchandise.
This project was special to me. Designing for The Arcade wasn’t just about creating a brand or website—it was about celebrating a piece of Memphis history and helping it thrive in its next century. Seeing the diner’s charm come to life online while supporting its legacy made this project both meaningful and rewarding. I designed this website and brand package in 2019 while I was Co-Founder of LAB Digital Creative, before beginning an independent design practice in early 2025.
